Precautions

Before making your recipes, don't forget to thoroughly disinfect your equipment (with 70°C alcohol or boiling water) to avoid any contamination.

We recommend selecting organic ingredients whenever possible, as well as virgin oils obtained by cold pressing. Indeed, the more "raw" your ingredient is, the more it retains its virtues and effectiveness!

Finally, store your recipes in an airtight container, in a dry place away from light. Since they mostly contain oils, they can be kept for several months (except oat milk which should be used immediately, and Skin Mousse which keeps for a few weeks in the fridge).

However, if your preparation changes in smell or color, stop using it immediately.

1) The oil cocktail before the shower

The oils form a protective barrier on the skin. By applying a mixture of nourishing and protective oils before the shower or bath, you avoid the stripping and drying effect of some shower gels and other soaps. Indeed, due to the surfactants they contain, they could damage the skin's natural protective film, which can lead to the development of eczema. Moreover, if you live in an area where the water is hard, this can also dry out your skin.

In this recipe, we recommend coconut oil, which is a recognized ingredient against eczema (antiseptic, easily penetrates the skin), Neem oil (antibacterial and anti-inflammatory), and olive oil (nourishing and protective).

Recipe

Ingredients :

  • 1 tablespoon of Coconut Oil
  • 1 tablespoon of Olive Oil
  • 2 teaspoons of Neem Oil

Preparation :

Mix the oils in a bowl by stirring with a spoon. And that's it!

Usage tips

Before the shower or bath, spread the mixture on your eczema areas, and/or all over the body if you have atopic-prone skin. Massage to help the oils penetrate well.

Result

Protected during the shower or bath, your skin is nourished, hydrated, softer, and less prone to eczema flare-ups!

If you really don't have time to prepare this oil cocktail, you can use our magic spray as a substitute!

2) Oatmeal in the bath

5 recipes to fight eczema - Olie Neela

Oat milk is an important ally in fighting eczema and treating atopic dermatitis. It is protective, anti-inflammatory, soothing, and restores the skin’s hydrolipidic film thanks to its content of vitamins, carbohydrates, and minerals. It is also often recommended for the daily care of newborns. Moreover, using it in the bath will help reduce the drying effect of hard water.

Recipe

Ingredients: One cup of oat flakes.

Preparation: Put the oat flakes in a pouch / cloth / washcloth or a sock that you will close (for example, with a string).

Then let it infuse in the bathtub while the bathwater runs. It will gradually become "milky."

It is also possible to prepare your oat milk in advance by pouring 250g of oat flakes into 1L of hot water (let it simmer for 5 to 10 minutes). Don’t forget to strain before pouring it into your bath.

Finally, there is also oatmeal in powder form that you can pour directly into the bath.

Usage tips

Take your bath, enjoy it to relax and soothe yourself. Be careful that the water temperature is not too hot (ideally 37°C), as high heat can worsen eczema.

After about ten minutes, rinse off.

Result

Your skin will be softened and hydrated. The itching will be quickly soothed! Oatmeal-eczema: 1-0.

3) The SOS Balm

5 recipes to fight eczema - Olie Neela

Once you get out of the shower or bath, it is important to continue nourishing your skin so that it is protected throughout the day.

Indeed, against eczema, the watchwords are: protection, hydration, nutrition, soothing!

Skin that suffers from eczema is very reactive skin. So forget about standard creams from supermarkets and any product containing synthetic fragrances. Use something gentle, very nourishing, and natural.

This is what we offer you in the recipe for this 100% natural balm that combines shea butter (protective, moisturizing, and nourishing), hemp oil (nourishing, anti-inflammatory), and Calendula macerate (soothing, regenerating).

Recipe

Ingredients and equipment:

  • 1 tablespoon of Calendula macerate
  • 1 tablespoon of hemp oil
  • 2 tablespoons of pure shea butter
  • 1 saucepan, 1 airtight jar, 1 whisk

Preparation:

Melt the butter over very low heat in the saucepan. Then add the hemp oil and Calendula macerate.

Then whisk vigorously to obtain a smooth and homogeneous mixture. Let cool.

While it is still liquid, then transfer the mixture into the jar. Wait 24 hours to let the balm solidify at room temperature.

Usage tips

After your shower/bath, apply the SOS balm on your skin. Focus on very dry areas (elbows, knees, hands...). It will melt easily and nourish deeply. Feel free to use it throughout the day, as soon as you feel discomfort or itching, it will come to cocoon you!

Result

This ultra-rich balm will be your ally to nourish your skin daily, soothe very dry areas, and protect them from aggressions, especially in winter. Goodbye discomfort, redness, and tightness!

Moreover, on days when you don't have time to make it, we have for you our ready-made Magic Balm!

This magic balm contains several first cold-pressed oils, specially selected for their nourishing, anti-inflammatory, regenerating, repairing, and soothing properties: Calendula macerate, hemp oil, seed oil, calophyllum oil, evening primrose oil, and shea butter. 4) The Skin Mousse

Skin Mousse is a blend of Aloe Vera gel and vegetable oils. It differs from balm by its lighter texture, in the form of "mayonnaise." It will be ideal to apply on the face, or in summer, for a fluid and fresh treatment to use all over the body.

Aloe Vera has been used for centuries, even millennia, for its moisturizing, soothing, and healing properties. It will be combined with hemp oil which soothes and nourishes without greasiness, and Blackcurrant oil which is anti-inflammatory and antibacterial.

Recipe

Ingredients and equipment:

  • 1 tablespoon of hemp oil
  • 2 tablespoons of Aloe Vera gel
  • 2 teaspoons of Blackcurrant oil
  • 1 bowl, 1 whisk

Preparation:

Mix the different ingredients in a bowl. Then whisk vigorously until you get a texture close to mayonnaise.

Bonus: if you want to keep your Skin Mousse for several weeks (one to two months maximum because Aloe Vera gel is rich in water, which promotes the growth of microbes), you can add 8 drops of vitamin E (natural preservative sold in organic stores).

However, if you do so, do not use it near the eyes, as vitamin E can be an eye irritant.

Usage tips

Apply daily on the areas you want (face, legs, back, hands...) and at any time of the day! Storing it in the fridge will add a cooling effect!

Result

Eczema lesions will heal gradually, the skin will be soothed and hydrated without a "greasy" feeling.

5) Honey ointment

Honey is a choice ingredient to relieve eczema! It is healing, regenerating, and soothing. We recommend lavender honey which concentrates these properties, or better, Manuka honey which is a powerful antiseptic, healing, and antioxidant, but its price is considerable.

In this recipe, we will mix honey with beeswax (anti-inflammatory, protective) and coconut oil (antiseptic, nourishing) to obtain an ointment.

Recipe

Ingredients and equipment:

  • 2 level tablespoons of grated or pelletized beeswax
  • 5 tablespoons of safflower oil
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 1 glass jar, 1 saucepan, 1 small wooden spatula

Preparation:

Prepare a double boiler by placing the jar in a saucepan containing water. Put the wax and oil into the jar, then leave on the heat until the wax is completely melted.

Remove from heat, stir gently with the wooden spatula and let cool. Then add the honey and stir.

Place the mixture in the freezer for 10 minutes, remove and stir well again until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Return to the freezer for 5 minutes, then store in a dry place away from light.

Usage tips

This ointment may seem a bit sticky, but the point is really to apply it on problematic areas: cracked, damaged, reddened. So it is not a daily treatment, however it is very effective for soothing and helping skin regeneration.

Apply it in a rather thick layer on the area to be treated and leave it on for several hours or overnight. To prevent the ointment from sticking to your clothes, it is advisable to apply a bandage over it.

Rinse if necessary.

Result

The skin will be deeply soothed, relieved, and regenerated!
